Wise, a credit card for those who love to wander…

If you are a Traveller and you didn’t hear about Wise it’s such a shame! It’s a card every traveler should have. And I know I also just got it this year, but to my defense, I just started actively traveling outside of Europe, and in Europe, you generally pay with the same currency so.

Ps.: it’s kind of the same as Revolut.

1. Personal Experience

In general Wise is just a prepaid card that gives you access to pay with the local currency of the land you traveling to without all the extra cost a bank would charge for the currency switches or at least limited. But next. to that it has so much more plus points! Let me give you a quick review of what I use it for;

  • From the moment I knew I was traveling to the USA I started to keep an eye on the exchange rate between the Euro and the US dollar. Something that you can easily do through the Wise app by the way. So when the exchange rate was in my favor I already started putting US dollars on my Wise card, with a transaction fee of 0,50%. So I always did this for the amount I could miss.
  • Next to an USD balance, I also already have a balance for EUR & GBP. So instead of getting cash money for every country you travel to you just have it on one card. So for my quick stop in Heathrow Airport, I still could pay like a local without having to have any ponds in hand.
  • Another plus point is because of the technology of these days you don’t really need a card if you don’t want to. You can make an account on the Wise-app for free and add this card to your Apple-Wallet. But it’s also possible to order a physical card for €7.
  • The Wise-app is also a really easy way to keep track of your payments, every time you pay with it not even a second later you get a notification on your phone, also from payments that didn’t come through. So it’s really hard for others to use your card without your knowledge.
  • Also if your traveling in group it’s so easy to transfer money in the local currency, without paying any extra fees. You just find your friend on the app and transfer the money in the currency that you want.
  • Than something totally different from traveling, but a fun feature, although I didn’t try it yet. Is the fact that, we all sometimes want to buy something online, but not always trust those websites. So with Wise you can add a card for these payments and from the moment you notice something is wrong you just blok the extra card straight away, without needing to block your physical card or account.

Still not convinced that this is a must have for every traveler or you still have questions feel free to contact me or do more research on the Wise website.
